Who are the certified experts? How quickly will I get my solution? So just for a last resort, I went to one of my Soldiers' on the same network and plugged into their router Linksys and viola Dont know if that whole story helped anyone or not, but if mine goes haywire again, I am just ordering a LinkSys router.

Great news and well doem Tashimoto7 - this is a weird problem and it will be interesting to see if SP1 solves the problem properly. I am not hopeful, but I invested in new Netgear card and router at MS suggestion all to no avail. Then it turns out to be misconfigured AVF. Still, good to see we are getting some traction on this. I got a new ACER laptop for my sister yesterday. I went home to install it and the connection, well, you know. I tried everything, nothing works. I cannot connect to my wireless and get no internet in my "local only" ethernet connection.

I'm using a dlink router: my Toshiba laptop - with Vista - and my Compaq desktop, upgraded to Vista, work perfectly. So I changed my router to my old linkys. It also works plugged directly to the modem. One thing I noted: my connection always shows the "autoconfiguration IPv4: value of Even when I set specific IP address and DNS, etc, it would reset it back to automatic and show the autoconfiguration there.

Any suggestions on how to change it? I'm pretty sure the issue is some sort of incompatibility with my Dlink -DI. What is funny to me is that my desktop with a Windows Vista Ultiamte and my work laptop both connect to the router without problems Is it possible that the problem with the automated IP of " We've been having the same problem on our local network here in the office.

It's a home premium version of vista but out of all the searching and sifting I've been doing, it seems as though there might be a pattern. Has anyone had this specific problem on other version of vista? By the way, I'm not referring to the problem of "Local Internet Only". I think there are two different problems being discussed in this thread. After 15 pages of confusion, that tends to happen. The fix that worked for mpeters13 didn't work for us.

I didn't happen to notice any specifics as to whether what kind of network he is on or what version of Vista he was running.

My home desktop has a Vista Ultimate, and it works. My work's laptop with Vista Business also works My Sister's computer just had this problem; and I looked at all the solutions given in this forum and they are just to long winded and complicated. Here is how u fix this problem; in your Network and sharing center select manage network connections from the left panel; then right click on the the connection you use to connect to the internet and select properties; in the list of "connection items" uncheck IPv6 and configure your IPv4 using DHCP or manually.

We sent the machine to someone else because we were tired of fooling with it and supposedly our solution was updating a driver. I can't say which driver, because the information was relayed to us by a man who thinks the solution was "removed the internet, and put it back" lol.

I'm actually very suprised we didn't even attempt that solution, even though we never thought in a hundred years that it was the problem.

Whether or not the problem will return soon, or if it's just the fact that they tried the system on a different network, I don't know. But to me it's beginning to seem that this is a problem with multiple solutions.. Shame on Microsoft, I 've not seen something like this before, it's totaly a supporting tragedy.

Lots of people are complaining about "Local Only" and "Limited Connectivity" errors but there is not any answer or help from Microsoft. I've tried everyting that is suggested in the forum none of them have solved the problem. Final option; uninstal vista and use Linux. If these are by design, I thing there is a design error in Vista.

I've tried pretty much everything on this thread to no avail. I am able to get online for maybe a minute and then it goes to local access only.

A laptop on my network was having the same problem. The thing is that she travels a lot and is rarely in the office. It was working fine until yesterday where it was in Local Access Only mode. There is also another Vista user in the office and his internet was working fine. I was pretty much pulling out my hair trying to fix this problem.

The thing that also got me was both the wireless and LAN can connect to the network just fine, browsing through shared drives with no problems, but still could not get on the internet local only on both. But I finally got it working. Here are the things I've done to try and get it working:. I disabled and reenabled the NIC. Then disable wired connection on the adapter then enable WiFi on the PC or laptop. If you do reboot the PC again. If you still have issues. Might have to reset the Internet Modem but call up your ISP and let them walk you through the process.

Hey dolsen. First off, are you sure you have an internet signal on your modem and router led's? I'm curious as to why you think this is a common problem with Vista Also, have you been able to connect before with another router and did you buy this new router because of a previous connection problem.

Also, what version of Vista 32 or 64 bit are you on and what Service Pack level is your pc on? You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads. New Log4j attack vector can affect local hosts with no internet access. Replies 4 Views Details required :.
